9:00 AM 13.1 Mile Half Marathon
The course remains open for hikers and walkers until the afternoon.
The course consists of a 13.1 mile loop through the historic and rugged Wissahickon Valley Park. Marathoners will complete this circuit twice. Comprised of 95% single-track trail and 5% gravel road, this run is a visceral experience of Philadelphia's natural landscape.
Expect many short but steep climbs that will test your legs and lungs. With approximately 1,300 feet of elevation gain per loop (2,600ft total for the marathon), this course requires determination and focus. You will be navigating the infamous Yellow and White trails, known for their technical rocky sections and beautiful, winding paths through the forest canopy.
Wissahickon Valley Park, a National Natural Landmark, offers a dramatic setting of steep slopes and schist rock outcroppings. This race isn't just a run; it's an immersion into the wildest corner of Philadelphia.
