The rugged and scenic Shades of Death trail
90% single track and multi-use trail. Featuring the technical "Shades of Death" and the legendary boulder field crossing.
The entire course is contained within the pristine boundaries of Hickory Run State Park. The route is designed as a figure-8 shaped 50K loop; 100K participants will complete this loop twice.
90% Trails: A mix of winding single track and wider multi-use trails.
Minimal Road: Only 1 mile of gravel road in the entire loop.
Technical Challenges: While most trails are moderate, the 1-mile Shades of Death section and the sub-1-mile Boulder Field crossing are considered very difficult.
50K: Miles 5, 10, 12, 15, 21.5, 26
100K: Includes 50K stops plus Miles 31, 36, 41, 43, 45, 51.5, 57
18M: Miles 3, 9.5, 14
Gatorade, water, snacks, and carbs provided. Carry at least 16oz of fluid.
Every runner receives a custom finisher award.
Top 3 Overall Male/Female.
Top 5 Age Groups: 18-39, 40-49, 50-59.
Winner: 60+.
